The Soapbox Presents is a platform for cultural preservation and community empowerment. Founded by Marija Abney in 2020 in response to the murder of George Floyd, The Soapbox Presents produces programming that encourages communities to resist, and be rejuvenated and revived, all while celebrating the brilliance of Black and brown people through art. The Soapbox Presents features some of NYC’s most talented artists and the organization has performed at The Apollo, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Afropunk, but most significantly for the community on the stoops and sidewalks of NYC. The platform was recently featured in the New York Times, is the recipient of The Mellon Foundation’s Humanities in Place grant, and was celebrated in the “Positively Black” segment on NBC New York. They’ve welcomed Babyface, ASAP Ferg, Rapsody, Big Daddy Kane, Ledisi and many others as guest artists at their activations. They can be found @thesoapboxpresents on all social platforms.
