Home of Hip-Hop: A History Walk with Kool Herc & Cindy Campbell
The annals of hip-hop history have long since enshrined Kool Herc as one of hip-hop’s forefathers; the party he DJ’d in the rec room at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue is considered the birthplace of hip-hop. Lesser known is the fact that the party was put together as a birthday celebration by his sister Cindy Campbell, the self-proclaimed “First Lady of Hip-Hop” who was inadvertently the first-ever hip-hop promoter. Join Kool Herc & Cindy Campbell for a historic walk through of the home of hip-hop around Cedar Park and the now legendary 1520 Sedgwick Avenue.
Afterwards, tune in for an encore of the culture talk featuring Kool Herc, Cindy Campbell and hip hop historian, poet and writer Kevin Powell.
