The annals of hip-hop history have long since enshrined Kool Herc as one of hip-hop’s forefathers; the party he DJ’d in the rec room at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue is considered the birthplace of hip-hop. Lesser known is the fact that the party was put together as a birthday celebration by his sister Cindy Campbell, the self-proclaimed “First Lady of Hip-Hop” who was inadvertently the first-ever hip-hop promoter.
