Formed in 1994 by New Orleans college students from Maryland, the band recruited local stalwarts like drummer Stanton Moore and the vocalist Theryl DeClouet to draw upon the funk, R&B, and jazz traditions of their adopted city. After building a rep locally opening for the likes of the Meters and Medeski, Martin and Wood. Over the years, their sound has expanded to encompass rock, brass band, blues, electronic, and hip-hop music, most notably in their 2007 LP From the Corner to the Block, which featured New Orleans OGs like Trombone Shorty and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux alongside the likes of Boots Riley, Juvenile, Z-Trip, and members of Digable Plaents, Blackalicious, and Jurassic 5. Their latest LP, 2019’s Already Ready Already, features five different singers and electronic instruments atop modern dance and funk rhythms.
