Colombia’s ChocQuibTown has continuously evolved their Afro-Caribbean hip-hop style since their first, independently released LP SoMOS Pacifico in 2006. Their breakout came with 2010’s Latin Grammy-winning Oro, which called out mistreatment of workers in Colombia’s gold mines. In the years that followed, group members Tostao, Goyo, and Slow have absorbed various sounds and influences; they’re currently making some of the most interesting reggaetón in a home country obsessed with the genre’s dembow riddim. Performing in celebration of Colombian Independence Day, they’ll be supported by Nanpa Basico, one of the most representative Colombian rappers who’s just as comfortable rapping over an acoustic guitar as he is a trap beat.
