What started as a small basement record shop in the Lower East Side of NYC quickly grew into a cultural hub for Hip Hop vinyl lovers known across the world. The brand would eventually expand into multiple retail locations, an e-comm site, as well as a full-fledged distribution company. Now in its 30th year of business, the stores are gone, but the online store and distribution company are steadily growing.
To celebrate the 30 years and the beginning of 31, Fat Beats partners up with SummerStage to bring you some of the best artists that have worked alongside the brand throughout its history. Legendary Bronx rapper and producer Lord Finesse is perhaps best known for his work with artists like Dr. Dre and as part of the hip-hop collective D.I.T.C. He’ll be joined in Bed-Stuy’s Herbert Von King Park by DJ Pete Rock, a many-time SummerStage alum and widely considered one of the best producers of all time. They’ll be joined by Large Professor, a founding member of Main Source and frequent Nas collaborator; Jericho Jackson, the group made of up Elzhi and Khrysis; The High & Mighty, a Philly duo composed of rapper Mr. Eon and DJ/producer Mighty Mi; the underground NYC hip-hop group Natural Elements; Lord Sko, a 20-year-old fresh face reviving traditional sound on the New York scene; rapper and lyricist Amxxr; and DJ A.vee on the tracks. The evening will be hosted by comedian, television personality, and rapper, Cipha Sounds.
