Group Volunteer Request

Volunteer Groups and Partnerships for Parks

This request is intended for individuals or organizations who are interested in connecting their group of 20 or more individuals, the majority of whom are adults,  to hands-on, volunteer service opportunities in New York City’s green spaces. Our service projects invite volunteers to beautify these spaces through maintenance, horticulture, painting, and other tasks, based on the needs of each park.

Guidelines

Schedule

Projects can be scheduled 7 days a week, between 8am – 3pm, for a minimum of 2 hours.  A 3 hour project is best.

Planning

4-6 weeks is required for most projects; groups with over 50 participants may require more planning time.

Group size

We are able to create personalized volunteer opportunities for groups of 20 or more. Smaller sized groups will be encouraged to volunteer during public volunteer days.

Youth

All youth must be supervised by responsible adult chaperones (we require a 1:5 adult to youth ratio). Painting projects are restricted to youth over 14 years of age. Most service projects are not appropriate for children under the age of 8.

Activities

Projects involve park maintenance activities, which might include one or more of the following: mulching, raking, weeding, debris removal, or beach cleaning. Planting and painting projects are sometimes available, but require a supply budget.

Supplies

All volunteer groups are required to bring their own gardening gloves and garbage bags.

Waivers

All participants are required to sign our volunteer and photo release waivers.

Cancellation policy

For groups under 25 people, we require at least a 24 hour notice; for groups of 25-50 people, we require 3 days notice; and for groups over 50 people, we require five days notice. With adequate notice, we can inform all involved staff and reallocate supplies accordingly. Failure to notify us within this timeframe may impact your ability to plan future projects with PfP.

Donations

PfP is a joint program of City Parks Foundation and NYC Parks. All donations for supplies and administrative costs should be made payable to City Parks Foundation (501c3), and are 100% tax-deductible.This application is intended for individuals or organizations who are interested in connecting their group of 20 or more individuals to hands-on, volunteer service opportunities in New York City’s green spaces. Our service projects invite volunteers to beautify these spaces through maintenance, horticulture, painting, and other tasks, based on the needs of each park.
