Teddy Rafael Mendez—a.k.a DJ TedSmooth—has held court in New York City’s dance music scene for decades, blessing countless hits with his remix treatment and earning himself the title of “The Remix King.” The East Harlem native also organizes an annual series of outdoor parties dubbed Tedsmooth’s Old School Jams, featuring musical performances from artists and DJs from around the world. This year TedSmooth brings his Jam to Soundview and gives it a Latin Freestyle twist, featuring the freestyle singers Cynthia, Lisette Melendez, and George Lamond, as well as DJs Eddie B Swift, G-Bo The Pro, and Breakbeat Lou, whose iconic compilation series Ultimate Breaks and Beats is a veritable blueprint of the break beats sampled by hip-hop producers in the late 1980s.
