April 16 is Kool Herc’s Birthday and as the recognized father of Hip-Hop, it gives us reason to celebrate this remarkable visionary and the distinctly New York genre that has had an enduring legacy as a voice for social commentary. We’ll be looking back at performances from previous seasons in parks across New York City and from our SummerStageAnywhere 2020 season including Fat Joe, Talib Kweli, Pete Rock and the Soul Brothers, Kool Herc, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, KRS-One, artists from Duck Down Music, and many more. The program will be hosted by hip-hop visionary Ralph McDaniels, creator of Video Music Box.
