“King of African Dancehall” Shatta Wale was already well-established in Ghana when he collaborated with Beyoncé on “ALREADY” a song from her 2019 film Black is King, but Queen B’s co-sign has helped him expand his global audience. His single “Gringo” helped propel his 2018 album Reign to the top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Chart. Wiyaala—”the doer” in her native Sissala dialect—is an Afro-pop singer-songwriter who sings in the Sissala and Waala dialects as well as English. She’s best known for her activism, an androgynous style reminiscent of Grace Jones, and her 2013 single “Make Me Dance.”
Wiyaala is presented in association with National Ghana Parade Council’s Ghanafest NY.
