In association with Move Forward Music, the Lagos-based Palmwine Festival celebrating Nigeria’s nascent alternative music scene comes to Brooklyn’s Herbert Von King Park with its good vibes, bright music, and delicious food. The fest was founded by the Nigerian rap duo Show Dem Camp, whose sound is indebted to the Ghanaian genre Highlife, fusing African meter and western jazz melodies. The duo’s Wale Davies (Tec) and Olumide Ayeni (Ghost) first met at a rap battle only to find out they were using the same stage name; they’ve been collaborating under various monikers ever since, counting Tems, Amaarae, Wani, and BOJ among their collaborators.
