Though she’s best known for her association with Prince—arguably his most talented and highest-profile protege-Sheila Escovedo had already recorded with George Duke and toured with Marvin Gaye by the time she met the Purple One. Often called “The Queen of Percussion,” the legendary percussionist featured on Purple Rain opener “Let’s Go Crazy” before breaking out with her 1984 LP “Glamorous Life”; She’s since collaborated with the likes of Phil Collins, Cyndi Lauper, Beyoncé, Ringo Starr and George Clinton. She’s joined by neo-soul R&B crooner Musiq Soulchild, best known for his 2000 hit “Just Friends (Sunny)” and his collaboration with The Roots and local Queens dancehall artist Kranium.
Queens Borough President Melinda Katz’s “Only in Queens Summer Festival” is a part of the SummerStage 2019 season.
