It’s Dominican Day when these three artists that embody the sounds of the island’s past and present come to Central Park. Headliner “El Rey Supremo” Luis Vargas is a bachata star known for his sexually charged macho lyrics drenched in double entendre. It was in his band that Anthony Santos (another bachata king in his own right) got his start; they were among the first bachata artists to use the electric guitar in the late 80′s, revolutionizing the genre. He’s supported by El Gran Alcover, a rising reggaetonero who incorporates salsa, bachata, and merengue into his modern pop songs, and Max Banda, a merengue ensemble in the traditional Dominican style led by a Queens native.
