This showcase of Scandinavian singer-songwriters promises to fill the air in Central Park with stunning songs both soft and sweet. Norway’s Jakob makes synth pop steeped in vintage soul and jazz, crooning with a Prince-inspired falsetto; his debut EP Bedroom Tapes features an 18-year-old Clairo, and his latest single “Swan” is a dreamy collaboration in French with Talia Maidenberg. Sweden’s Sarah Klang makes guitar-based pop music with influences of Americana and country; her songs are rooted in tender stories about motherhood, maturation, and coming of age. Denmark’s Astrid Sonne is a singer-songwriter and violist based in London; after spending her youth in classical training, she shifted into electronic composition. She writes glitchy and abstract folk songs that incorporate electronic and acoustic instruments, wavering between the organic and the ethereal. Rounding out the bill is Finnish artist and dancer Joalin, whose meditations on love, heartbreak and self-trust are moving and all-encompassing. Set to an intoxicating blend of pop, R&B and reggaeton-inflected productions, she can effortlessly glide from ethereal falsettos to puckish rap-speak, from English to Spanish.
This event is co-organized by the Consulates General of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in New York and supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers + sponsors. Presented in partnership with Flow Festival, Øyafestivalen & Way Out West.
