Saudades is a word unique to the Portuguese language. It describes the feeling of longing for something or someone. In celebration of World Portuguese Language Day, this program will take us through some of the best music and poetry from Portuguese language speaking countries, also known as the Lusophone community, while sparking renewed reflection on its history and identity. The program will feature highlights of past performances at SummerStage by Mariza, The Gift, Selma Uamusse, Dead Combo, Cesária Évora Orchestra, Dino D’Santiago, Noiserv, Renato Diz and Sofia Ribeiro. It will also include an original performance by Angolan star and SummerStage alum Paulo Flores, a poem by awarded author Ondjaki and testimonials from renowned Mozambican writer Mia Couto, and Angolan SummerStage alum Pedro Coquenão (aka Batida).
