SummerStage, Central Park
Rumsey Playfield, Manhattan, 10021
In association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference and in celebration of 50 years of Hip-Hop and its influence on Latin America, Central Park plays host to some of Latin America’s most ascendant young stars. TRUENO is a rapper from Argentina known for his exceptional freestyle skills; his latest LP Bien o Mal features collaborations with J Balvin and Nathy Peluso. Villano Antillano has recently emerged from Puerto Rico’s burgeoning queer music scene, spitting rhymes with a nimble acid tongue and an ear for hard-hitting yet buoyant beats. Each has been catapulted onto the world stage—and the pop charts—in recent months thanks to popular episodes of Argentine producer Bizzarap’s “Freestyle” and “Music” Sessions on YouTube. Colombian duo Dawer x Damper wield the rhythms of the diaspora to explore the complex dynamics of their Cali barrio, leading the vanguard of Latin American Afro-Futurism. KEXP’s El Sonido with Albina Cabrera ft. Camola will be on the ones and twos.
