Founded by Doris Muñoz as a way to help raise money for those close to her to fight immigration battles, Solidarity for Sanctuary has evolved into an organization and yearly festival centered on education, grassroots organizing, and giving the immigrant community the tools to create social change. This lineup for this year’s online fest is jam-packed with artists representing the diversity of the Latinx experience. Latin Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Carla Morrison returns to music after a sojourn in Paris, incorporating more R&B and pop to her emotionally charged ballads; Puerto Rico’s iLe brings a revolutionary spirit to her traditional island rhythms and melodies; French-Colombian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Gabriel Garzón-Montano infuses soul with alternative; Lido Pimienta brings songs from her latest bilingual electropop masterpiece Miss Colombia; Combo Chimbita expands the horizons of Colombian guacharaca through the lens of Brooklyn psychedelia; Brooklyn rapper Nitty Scott’s swag and sass has made her a go-to featured artist in the NYC rap scene; Chicago-born Kaina fuses the sounds of Venezuela and Guatemala with an American R&B sensibility; and NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Linda Diaz’s lush vocal arrangements imbue her jazzy R&B with a New York soul.
