Working with NYC Parks: How to Build Relationships
Hosted by Partnerships Academy

Wednesday, May 12, 2021

6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Community groups who support neighborhood parks and green spaces are most effective when they understand how NYC Parks operates and develop relationships with staff. NYC Parks can be a challenging system to navigate; this webinar will help lay the groundwork for a mutually beneficial relationship so you can best advocate for projects in your community.

Join us to learn:

  • Examples of successful community group relationships with NYC Parks staff.
  • How NYC Parks is structured, centrally and in each borough.
  • Tips on how to build successful working relationships.
  • Relevant COVID-19 updates to NYC Parks policies.

Featured speakers:

  • Edmundo, Co-Founder, Concrete Friends

A lifelong resident of the Bronx, Edmundo wanted to ensure Concrete Plant Park remained a space for the community and set out to help do so by co-founding Concrete Friends. The group took advantage of the relationships and resources made available to them, working with various levels of NYC Parks, local organizations and other community members to support the group’s vision while putting community voices and needs first. Concrete Plant Park is the site of the Bronx River Foodway, a pilot project that revolutionizes food access in public spaces, and many other community driven projects.

  • Eric Peterson, Rockaway Administrator, NYC Parks

Eric is entering his 3rd season at Rockaway Beach and 23rd season as a Parkie. He began his career in the Arsenal in the citywide Marketing & Special Events office, was Manhattan’s director of Special Events & Permits, chief of staff for Capital Projects, helped to open the High Line, and has worked in Maintenance & Operations in three boroughs- as a Park & Recreation manager in Brooklyn (Districts 1, 3, and 4, and Pools), deputy administrator of Randall’s Island in Manhattan, and now Rockaway administrator in Queens. Eric has yet to find a place in NYC he cannot walk, bike, or drive a golf cart. He is particularly interested in improving the level of service, access, and programming in the parks.

Registration for this session is required and will close the day before the event. You will receive information on how to join the webinar once you register. If you have any questions, contact us at academy@cityparksfoundation.org.
