One of New York hip-hop’s founding fathers, Kool DJ Red Alert came up in the time of Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flowers, and Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation, helping move hip-hop from the street parties in the Bronx and uptown to the airwaves at 98.7 KISS FM. His legendary mixes are a veritable hip-hop history lesson, and helped break artists such as A Tribe Called Quest and Queen Latifah on New York radio. The mixtape pioneer now holds it down as a member of Funkmaster Flex’s Lit Digital DJ crew.
