SUMMARY:Pinocchio and Gepetto's Big Apple Adventure
DESCRIPTION:During the 2026 season\, the PuppetMobile will present a fresh take on the classic fairytale Pinocchio written by Julia Darden and directed by Bruce Cannon\, with set design by Zlata Godunova and costume design by Charlie DelRisco. \nIn this new telling\, Geppetto is a New York City kid with a talent for invention\, going as far as creating a robot friend in the form of Pinocchio. The story follows the pair as they tour around classic locales\, from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park to the Victorian Gardens Amusement Park\, and the hijinks they get into along the way.  \nThe production features hand-made marionettes crafted by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre puppet builder Kevin White. In addition to the artistry of the production\, viewers will be treated to original songs written and orchestrated by Daryl Kojak performed by the marionettes.

DESCRIPTION:Due to the incoming weather predicted of severe storms in Queens this evening\, tonight’s Basement Bhangra show with DJ Rekha has been cancelled. \nFor the fourth consecutive year\, cultural instigator DJ Rekha takes the energy of their legendary Basement Bhangra party beyond the club walls with a multi-genre live show\, infusing sounds of hip-hop\, dancehall\, and diasporic grooves to the World’s Fair grounds at Queens’ Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. This year’s lineup is anchored by British-Indian singer Jaz Dhami\, known for redefining the face of Punjabi music through hits such as “High Heels\,” “Zulfa\,” “Beparwaiyan\,” and his latest single “Saviour.” Also featured is Mitika Kanwar\, whose unique blend of Punjabi lofi folk and R&B includes collaborations with Sidhu Moosewala\, Nucleya\, and Talwiinder. Babbulicious\, a Punjabi-Canadian singer and multidisciplinary artist\, brings a joyful energy with crowd favorites like “Gaddi Red Challenger\,” recently performed at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration. DESCRIPTION:At the dawn of the ‘90s\, when the most popular hip-hop was neck-deep in intimidating street tales\, New Yorkers De La Soul offered an alternate take\, striving for peace and harmony with creative rhyme styles on their critically acclaimed debut 3 Feet High and Rising. Prince Paul’s heavily sample-based production style and inventive skits remain massively influential\, even as hip-hop aesthetics have shifted from the jazz\, soul\, and classic R&B sounds he drew from. The group continued to evolve\, leaving behind the flowery aesthetic that mistakenly branded them as “hippies” for a darker tone on records like De La Soul is Dead and Buhloone Mindstate. Though this current lineup is without Trugoy the Dove—who passed in 2023—the group has experienced a resurgence of interest with new 2025 release Cabin in the Sky. They’re joined by Bronx legend Pete Rock\, producer and occasional MC best known for his collaborations with CL Smooth (“They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”) and his production work on classic albums by Nas\, AZ\, Rakim\, and his cousin Heavy D. Widely considered one of the most renowned hip-hop producers of the ‘90s\, his hazy\, jazz-centric sample style is both distinctive and widely influential. His recent studio collaboration with Common\, The Auditorium Vol. 1\, earned him a GRAMMY nomination last year.

DESCRIPTION:An annual summer tradition\, the Metropolitan Opera’s popular summer recital series in New York City parks continues this year\, showcasing performances by members of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Performers include Colorado-born soprano Tessa McQueen\, who spent the Met’s 2025–26 season as Helen in the company premiere of Mason Bates’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay\, the First Lady in The Magic Flute\, and Annina in La Traviata; Connecticut-based tenor Alex McKissick\, who recently covered several roles in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego; and Lonwabo Mose\, a bass-baritone from Cape Town\, who is set to make his company debut during the Met’s 2026–27 season as Happy in La Fanciulla del West and the King in Aida; with accompaniment by Mariam Bombrun\, a pianist and coach from Paris\, with credits with the San Diego Symphony\, Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris\, the Met’s revival of Carmen\, and Tosca at the Paris Opera. This event forms part of Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250 festival.
