SUMMARY:WayV / THE EITHER / Chopstix
DESCRIPTION:For a century\, China Institute of America has been dedicated to deepening the world’s understanding of China. In celebration of their Centennial\, SummerStage brings two takes on the future sounds of Chinese pop to Central Park. The K-pop boy band NCT is so massive that it’s become its own ecosystem\, spinning off members into their own sub-groups that establish their own voice. WayV are the fourth such to spin off—and its first China-based collective—recording pop songs that fuse hip-hop and dance with R&B-stylized vocals sung in Mandarin since their 2019 debut EP The Vision. They’re joined by THE EITHER\, formed in New York in 2017. Their sound — Post-Orientalism — rebuilds Eastern elements for today\, blending electrified traditional instruments\, Chinese opera-inspired vocals\, progressive rock energy\, and compositions with a strong Eastern melodic identity into a bold\, future-facing performance. \n The Member RSVP Deadline for WayV (8/2) is Friday\, 7/31 @ 6pm. Memberships bought the day of a show do not guarantee entry — RSVP confirmation required.\n  \nEntry FAQ for WayV / The Either / Chopstix\n  \nWill there be a ticketed/wristbanding system for entry?\nAs with all SummerStage free events\, entry will be first-come first-serve. DESCRIPTION:The venue is now at capacity and doors are closed. \n  \nWant to see the show from the best seats in the house? Try becoming a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy skip-the-line privileges\, complimentary beverages\, and air-conditioned restrooms.  \nMemberships bought the day of a show do not guarantee entry — RSVP confirmation required.\nA trio of rising Latin hip-hop stars head to Central Park for this show\, presented in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Of the various figures in the red hot Argentinian rap scene\, none has shined brighter than Trueno\, the son of Uruguayan rapper Peligro and a veteran of the scene’s battle rap circuit. His early appearance on producer Bizarrap’s freestyle show BZRP Freestyle Sessions launched him to nationwide fame and helped establish the show as a chart-topping vehicle\, landing the pair at the number one spot on Argentina’s Hot 100. He’s since released several solo albums\, collaborated with the likes of Bad Gyal\, Feid\, and J Balvin\, and is responsible for one of the Argentinian rap scene’s biggest hits in 2020’s “Mamichula.” He’s joined by Milo J\, who leveraged his viral hit “Milagrosa” into collaborations with Nicki Nicole\, Duki\, and Peso Pluma; he also benefited from an appearance on Bizarrap’s YouTube series\, which led to the pair’s collaborative EP En Dormir Sin Madrid. His latest LP La Vida Era Más Corta saw him take a hard left turn into art-pop\, fusing Argentine folklore with urban and experimental sounds. Opening the show is the dynamic Dominican rapper J Noa\, a nimble-tongued MC with a rapid-fire flow who stunned the world at her NPR Tiny Desk performance\, her first outside of her own neighborhood in the Dominican Republic.

SUMMARY:UBB 40th Anniversary Celebration: BreakBeat Lou & Lord Finesse / Diamond D / Grand Puba / Sadat X / Nice & Smooth / Peter Gunz / DJ Boogie Blind
DESCRIPTION:Want to see the show from the best seats in the house? Try becoming a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy skip-the-line privileges\, complimentary beverages\, and air-conditioned restrooms.  \nFew records—if any—have had as much impact on music as the Ultimate Breaks and Beats compilation assembled by BreakBeat Lou and BreakBeat Lenny in 1986. By collecting what they called the “foundational” breakbeats – the very records DJs looped for breakdancers at the earliest hip-hop park jams and block parties\, they created not only an essential tool for DJs\, but also an accidental archive of hip-hop’s DNA. For this 40th anniversary celebration of the original compilation—of which only 25 volumes were released between 1986 and 1991— Breakbeat Lou is joined by members of the Bronx’s legendary Diggin’ in the Crates crew\, Lord Finesse and Diamond D. As pioneers of a distinct New York sound\, their work helped define the golden era of hip-hop production and lyricism that would soon resonate nationwide. Rounding out a line up filled with SummerStage alumni are Grand Puba and Sadat X of the acclaimed socially conscious rap group Brand Nubian; the iconic duo Nice & Smooth\, best known for their single “Hip-Hop Junkies\,” their feature on Big Daddy Kane’s “Pimpin Ain’t Easy\,” and their unforgettable appearance on Gang Starr’s “DWYCK”; and Peter Gunz\, whose collaboration with Lord Tariq\, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” became a late-90s anthem—sampling the unmistakable groove of Steely Dan. Completing the celebration is a set by DJ Boogie Blind\, known for his affiliations with the legendary X‑ecutioners as well as the Diggin’ in the Crates collective. Together\, these artists represent the culture\, creativity\, and crate-digging spirit that helped transform a DJ tool into one of hip-hop’s most influential musical documents. \nLive graffiti will be done on site by James Top\, Kingbee & Stem Ynn. \n  \nPre show panel: Free with RSVP \nRock Steady \nOn the heels of Rock Steady For Life: Bringing Breakdancing to the World\, SummerStage hosts a monumental book event celebrating the global legacy of the Rock Steady Crew. The evening centers\non an intimate panel diving deep into hip‐hop history\, style\, survival\, and the untold stories behind Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón’s highly anticipated new book — a rare chance to experience the culture in conversation with the people who built it. \nRichard “Crazylegs” Colón – Panelist \nRichard “Crazy Legs” Colón is a Bronx-born Hip Hop pioneer and the longtime President of the legendary Rock Steady Crew. Widely celebrated as the most iconic Latino figure in Hip Hop history\, he helped elevate breaking to a global art form through his signature style and appearances in landmark films like Flashdance and Beat Street. His legacy is preserved in the Smithsonian Institution\, and he continues to educate worldwide as a member of the Cornell University Hip Hop Collection Advisory Board. Also a dedicated humanitarian\, he founded the Rock Steady For Life nonprofit for Puerto Rico relief. His highly anticipated book\, Rock Steady For Life: Bringing Breakdancing to the World (Rizzoli)\, releases in Fall 2026\, chronicling his unmatched journey with forewords by Big Daddy Kane and Russell Peters. \nLuis “Breakbeat Lou” Flores – Panelist \nEditor and extender of Ultimate Breaks & Beats (UBB)\, the iconic 25‐volume vinyl compilation series released between 1986 and 1991 on Street Beat Records\, created with Leonard “BreakBeat Lenny” Roberts. These records collected and lengthened classic drum breaks from late‐’60s and ’70s funk\, soul\, rock\, and disco — becoming a foundational sample source for golden‐age hip‐hop producers and influencing countless artists from Public Enemy to DJ Premier\, Dr. Dre\, and beyond. \nThe Delgado’s Podcast – Moderator \nA culture‐based platform dedicated to highlighting creators and artists whose work has made a significant impact in their fields. Known for organic\, in‐depth interviews where storytelling\, perspective\, and lived experience are front and center\, the host will guide a fireside‐style dialogue with Crazy Legs and guests — surfacing the personal\, historical\, and cultural layers behind Rock Steady For Life.

SUMMARY:Julieta Venegas / Lasso / Micro TDH / DJ Anamaria Sayre
DESCRIPTION:The venue has reached capacity and doors are now closed for this show. Memberships purchased today or outside of the venue do not guarantee entry to tonight’s show. \nA sampling of Spanish-language pop hits Central Park\, in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference. GRAMMY-winning Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas has been a mainstay of Mexican pop since her breakout 2003 LP Sí\, a lovestruck collection of sun-drenched hits that’s been described as “relentlessly perky.” She’s best known for the catchy pop found on that record and its follow-up Limon y Sal\, but the one-time member of ska band Tijuana No! debuted with the significantly edgier rock en español records Aqui and Bueninvento\, and has written songs for and performed with a wide range of Latin artists\, from Paulina Rubio and Mala Rodríguez to Miguel Bosé and Los Tigres del Norte. She’s joined by the Venezuelan singer and composer Lasso\, known for his brand of Latin pop\, rock\, and romantic ballads; his 2011 debut album Sin Otro Sentido made him an overnight star in Venezuela (and landed him a starring role in a TV soap opera). He would later win the Best Pop Rock Latin GRAMMY for “Ojos Marrones” in 2023.

SUMMARY:Complexions Contemporary Ballet / Paul Taylor Dance Company / LaTasha Barnes’ The Jazz Continuum presents The Look of Love
DESCRIPTION:Want to see the show from the best seats in the house? Try becoming a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy skip-the-line privileges\, complimentary beverages\, and air-conditioned restrooms.  \nThe Joyce Theater brings three contemporary dance companies to Central Park\, celebrating Jazz music through a wide range of styles. SummerStage alum Complexions Contemporary Ballet\, founded in 1994 by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson\, will perform Rhoden’s latest company premiere Midnight Riff\, which celebrates legendary female vocalists including Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn\, set to recordings by New York Voices. Led by Artistic Director Michael Novak\, The Paul Taylor Dance Company\, founded in 1954\, makes its festival debut with the vibrant work by Resident Choreographer\, Robert Battle\, Under The Rhythm\, set to music by Ella Fitzgerald\, Wycliffe Gordon\, and more. Finally\, multi-Bessie award winner (2021/2023)\, New York Times-lauded “Queen of Social Dance” and celebrated Best Dance & Breakout Star (2021) LaTasha Barnes is an internationally awarded and critically-acclaimed artist-scholar\, curator\, choreographer\, and tradition-bearer of Black American Social Dance\, co-based in Phoenix\, AZ\, and New York. Barnes presents an excerpt from her full-length solo “The Look of Love” that reflects on how love has shaped her life. Performed with a live band\, this piece blends recorded voices from her chosen “Framily” into the soundscape\, which Barnes experiences as a deeply embodied\, physical sensation. Through hip-hop\, swing\, house\, and funk\, she creates a heartfelt love letter to her influences—and a promise to those who came before her to love boldly and without fear. \nOne of the only theaters built by dancers for dance\, The Joyce Theater has garnered a well-deserved international reputation for cultivating and honoring emerging and established dance artists whose work represents a wide range of aesthetic interests. Since opening in 1982\, The Joyce has supported the dance community by providing a home for more than 400 domestic and international companies and by offering an annual 45 to 48-week season which\, each year\, allows more than 150\,000 audience members to experience diverse\, popular and challenging performances. \nThe Joyce’s invaluable commitment to artists and audiences extends beyond the immense volume of work taking place on its stage. In an effort to make dance accessible to audiences throughout New York City\, The Joyce has also expanded its reach beyond its Chelsea home through off-site presentations at venues ranging in scope from Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater\, to Brooklyn’s Invisible Dog Art Center\, and to outdoor programming in such spaces as Hudson River Park. \nThe Joyce anticipates many more years of success in sustaining dance by building robust\, educated audiences who share a love of the art form and embrace its enduring power.

SUMMARY:Morocco: From Dakhla to Casablanca: Hoba Hoba Spirit / Hamid El Kasri / Dakhla Casa Xpress / Mr ID / NDRK
DESCRIPTION:Doors for tonight’s show have been delayed until 6PM due to extreme weather.  \nWant to see the show from the best seats in the house? Become a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy express entry\, complimentary beverages\, air conditioned restrooms\, and more! \nIn association with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth\, Culture\, and Communication\, the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad\, and Maroc Festivals\, SummerStage brings a handful of artists showcasing the diversity of sounds and rhythms from the North African nation to Central Park. Headlining is Hoba Hoba Spirit\, a Moroccan rock band from Casablanca that fuses rock\, reggae and Gnawa (a Sufi style brought from West Africa) into a sound they call “haiha”—evoking the controlled chaos and randomness of their live experience. They joined by Hamid El Kasri\, a Gnawa master trained in the Chemeli style with a distinctively deep and rich voice who performs with the three-stringed bass guembri; Dakhla Casa Xpress beginning with the stillness and warmth of the desert\, and building toward the electric energy of the city; Mr ID\, the DJ and producer who brought American rap beats\, funk rhythms and the spirit of Jazz back home with him to Morocco\, where he fused the sounds with violin airs and African percussion; and NDRK\, a rising star on the dance floors of Marrakech\, Casablanca\, and Dubai\, who also produces gems like the track selected as the anthem for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

SUMMARY:Bastille Day: Black M / Laurent Voulzy / Legends of the 80’s / Michel Polnareff
DESCRIPTION:For Bastille Day\, the Consulate General of France in New York imports four distinct acts from across the French pop landscape. Headlining is Black M\, French-Guinean rapper and member of the world-renowned group Sexion d’Assaut. Known for his animated personality and tongue-twisting rhyming style\, he broke out as a solo artist with the 2014 album Les yeux plus gros que le monde\, and has collaborated with artists such as Shakira (“Comme Moi”)\, Manu Dibango\, and Amadou & Mariam. He’s joined by Laurent Voulzy\, one of the most successful and critically acclaimed composers in contemporary French pop who has only become more prolific with age. Often working in tandem with longtime collaborator Alain Souchon\, Voulzy is known for an obsessive attention to detail in the studio\, crafting sophisticated melodies and rich arrangements. Also featured\, Legends of the 80’s\, a group of some of the most legendary French artists of the ‘80s. They’ve been touring as a unit for more than two decades\, sharing nostalgia and a love of one of France’s most popular eras in music. Finally\, Michel Polnareff\, the enigmatic French singer and composer best known for his 1966 hits “La Poupée qui fait non” and “Love Me\, Please Love Me\,” who has found success writing pop hits\, film scores\, and music for the stage.

SUMMARY:Spoon / Ratboys / Bodega / Alisa Ali
DESCRIPTION:Want to see the show from the best seats in the house? Try becoming a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy skip-the-line entry\, complimentary beverages\, air-conditioned restrooms\, and more. \nSpoon\, Austin’s most esteemed rock ambassadors\, have released ten albums to date including a string of five straight top 10 records: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007)\, Transference (2010)\, They Want My Soul (2014)\, Hot Thoughts (2017)\, and Lucifer on the Sofa (2022). The latter earned the band its first-ever GRAMMY nomination (Best Rock Album) and was praised by Rolling Stone as “the best thing they’ve ever done.” Look for hits from the revered catalog and more when the band play SummerStage in Central Park. They’re joined by Ratboys\, a prolific rock band once dubbed “the nicest indie rock band in Chicago” by Pitchfork. They’re touring behind their sixth album Singin’ to an Empty Chair\, a record built around a dialogue between Steiner and a close—but estranged—loved one\, which swerves between bubbly power-pop and post-country Americana. Opening the show is Brooklyn’s own BODEGA\, the anti-consumerist rock band\, jagged post-punk energy and social critique\, whose new album will be coming out via Chrysalis Records later this Fall. Alisa Ali will DJ for the evening.
