DESCRIPTION:GhanaFest-NY brings its annual public installation and celebration of Ghanaian culture and heritage to residents of New York City. This year’s event\, once again taking over Crotona Park in the Bronx\, is headlined by KiDi\, a singer\, songwriter\, and producer from Accra with infectious charisma and stage presence who first broke out in 2017 with his hit single “Odo.” Later successes with “Touch It” (2021) and “Lomo Lomo” (2024) highlight a fresh style that effortlessly weaves R&B and dancehall vibes into the traditional Ghanaian highlife style. He’s joined by Skrewfaze\, a Ghanaian afrobeats artist who makes upbeat party music that’s filled dancefloors across West Africa.

Funk Flex is more than just a DJ– he’s a hip-hop institution\, a radio and club mainstay who has helped break some of New York’s biggest artists and biggest hits and continues to keep his finger on the pulse of hip-hop and R&B. DESCRIPTION:Due to potential severe weather and flooding expected in New York City\, SummerStage in Crotona Park tonight has unfortunately been cancelled. The safety of our performers\, guests\, and staff is of the upmost importance. We hope to see you in the parks for additional concerts this weekend. \n  \nFor this salsa party in the Bronx\, three artists offer different takes on the classic Caribbean sound. Newark-born singer Frankie Negrón incorporates pop\, rock\, gospel\, R&B\, hip-hop\, and reggaetón elements into his brand of salsa; he’s also dabbled in acting\, appearing in Paul Simon’s Broadway production of The Capeman. Puerto Rican singer Christian Alicea has made a name for himself adding an urban twist to the salsa sound. The former firefighter had a big 2024\, when he was named a Billboard Latin Artist on the Rise and nominated for a Latin GRAMMY for Best Salsa Album. The lineup is rounded out by Funk Salsa Urban\, a New York City group inspired by the 90’s Latin group DLG\, fusing funk and urban rhythms with Spanglish lyrics on original songs (“Subelo”)\, popular covers (Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”) and medleys (“Tribute to El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico”).

DESCRIPTION:City Parks Foundation is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the world-renowned children’s story Pippi Longstocking by the legendary Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. To honor this milestone\, our traveling marionette theater\, the PuppetMobile\, will present Pippi\, a fresh retelling of the classic Swedish tale. \nThe production features nearly two dozen\, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers. In addition to the brilliant artistry of the production\, kids and families will enjoy the incredible adventures of quick-witted and super-strong Pippi as she overcomes bullies\, all while fending off unnecessary social conventions. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.

SUMMARY:Gil Scott-Heron Celebration: Freedom Riders / Sista Zock / The Last Poets
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of the life and legacy of the artist\, activist\, and performer Gil Scott-Heron. Known best for his poetic and prolific words “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”\, Scott-Heron’s spoken word performances inspired generations of rappers\, poets\, and singers. His style and rhythms forever changed hip-hop\, earning him the title of Godfather to the genre. Among the performers at this special event is Sista Zock\, a spoken word poet and musician with a unique Afro-jazz-hip-hop fusion sound. Her latest album Zock Solid: Where the Stem Meets the Root features a collaboration with The Last Poets and transcends genre boundaries. Additional artists are to be announced. \n  \nCo-Presented by the Jazz Foundation of America\, supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council\, and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
