CityParks Tennis Benefit
at the US Open Tennis Championships

Tuesday, August 30, 2022

5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

USTA Tennis Center / Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, City Parks Foundation will welcome guests to the CityParks Tennis Benefit at the US Open Championships. This year, we are proud to honor Jean-Yves Fillion, Chief Executive Officer, BNP Paribas USA, and Former World No. 1 and Nine-Time Major Champion Monica Seles, with the Vitas Gerulaitis Community Service Award.

Hosted by Billie Jean King, the CityParks Tennis Benefit supports free tennis instruction for thousands of kids ages 6-17 in parks throughout New York’s five boroughs. The Benefit includes premium tickets to attend US Open matches in Arthur Ashe that evening.

City Parks Foundation is honored to present Jean-Yves Fillion with the Vitas Gerulaitis Community Service Award for his dedicated leadership and for BNP Paribas’ long-standing support of CityParks Tennis. Jean-Yves is a passionate advocate for our work and shares our commitment to provide free tennis instruction to kids of all levels and from all backgrounds throughout New York City. Representing the Bank’s worldwide commitment to tennis, Jean-Yves is a member of the Board of Governors for the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

MONICA SELES
Former World No. 1, Nine-time Grand Slam Champion

Monica Seles was – and still is – one of the most celebrated and influential players in tennis history. Born in Yugoslavia, she began playing tennis at the age of 5 and went on to become the No. 1 junior tennis player in the world. By the time she was 16, Monica had remarkably beaten Steffi Graf at the French Open, becoming the youngest player in history to win the tournament. The following year, she became the youngest player in history to take over the world’s No. 1 ranking. Monica was virtually unstoppable from 1991 to 1993, winning a phenomenal eight of her nine Major titles as a teenager.

Since retiring in 2008, Monica has focused on being a motivational speaker, self-help author, and wellness expert. She teaches tennis clinics around the globe, gives inspiring talks to women and kids – and has dedicated her time to helping others find peace and balance amidst life’s most difficult challenges. For many, Monica’s determination, incredible talent, and triumphant return following a traumatic on-court attack in 1993 make her an especially inspiring hero in sports history. It is our honor to present Monica Seles with the Vitas Gerulaitis Community Service Award for her enduring contribution to the sport of tennis and for her dedication to helping others face challenges and thrive.
