About the Artists

A critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter-band leader, Res is widely recognized for her distinct style, a style that treats musical categories with a deft indifference. Is she Rock, is she R&B, is she Alternative, is she something somewhere in between; she says, “genre blending is where music is right now.” And, that she will “stick to this style until people catch back up with me.”

Res has worked with an impressive roster of award-winning artists including John Mayer, Mary J. Blige, Gnarls Barkley, Maxwell, Alanis Morissette, Shaggy and Musiq Soulchild, among others. Additionally, artists as diverse as The Internet, Kaytranada, Estelle, Solange have cited her as a musical influence. Res’ debut album, How I Do, released in 2001, sold over 300,000 copies and offered an edgy rock-soul alternative to the neo-soul wave that dominated the era. How I Do represents a defining moment in music in which underdogs were celebrated, artificial celebrity was mocked and artists who boldly rebelled against conformity were embraced.

Elliott Skinner is a 27-year-old Texas-raised, Brooklyn-based artist with a multi-faceted approach to folk and soul music. Skinner’s multiple avenues of music making include singing, guitar, bass, producing, and arranging. Improvisation plays a large role in Skinner’s compositions; He wishes to reflect the history, texture, and roots of Black culture in his music.

Skinner’s industry introduction came in 2015 with the trio Thirdstory – a group of singer-songwriters that garnered the attention of millions with their approach to harmony. In the last few years, Skinner has held residencies across New York and Brooklyn, opened for Anthony Ramos, and Kamasi Washington. He also appeared on the BET Hip Hop Awards with Chance the Rapper.

Elliott has released only a handful of music, but plans on expanding his contemporary blend of folk, rock, soul and blues. Continuing to experiment with a variety of artists, themes, and sounds will define his new material as he takes his solo output to unexpected places.
