Coastal Classroom Summer Institute Application

  • This 4-week program offers unique learning experiences to middle school students during the summer in NYC shoreline parks. Science-based activities coupled with recreational opportunities such as fishing, seining and bird watching allow students to experience our waterways as their own backyards and to learn how to protect them. Students gather what they have learned and reflect their cumulative knowledge and hands-on experiences through fully integrated science projects. Interested youth are invited to apply online for this free program.

Step 1: Program Location

  • Given the current situation of reopening of the city following the COVID-19 crisis, we are awaiting information from the State and City to provide clarity as to whether or not summer programs will be allowed to operate in person this summer.

  • If we are able to run in person programming, we will follow strict social distancing and personal protective protocols as outlined in the New York State Reopening Summer Day Camp Guidelines, and the program will be conducted at Kaiser Park, Brooklyn starting on July 13th Monday to Thursday 10:00am to 1:00pm. Format and hours are subject to change.

  • If in-person summer programs are not permitted, the program will be moved to the digital platform Google Classroom where it consists of 2 hours of distance learning programming including Virtual Conference and interactive activities. Starting July 13th, Monday to Thursday 10:00am-12:00pm. Format and hours are subject to change.
