SUMMARY:Morocco: From Dakhla to Casablanca: Hoba Hoba Spirit / Hamid El Kasri / Dakhla Casa Xpress / Mr ID / NDRK
DESCRIPTION:Doors for tonight’s show have been delayed until 6PM due to extreme weather.  \nWant to see the show from the best seats in the house? Become a SummerStage Member for a Day! Enjoy express entry\, complimentary beverages\, air conditioned restrooms\, and more! \nIn association with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth\, Culture\, and Communication\, the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad\, and Maroc Festivals\, SummerStage brings a handful of artists showcasing the diversity of sounds and rhythms from the North African nation to Central Park. Headlining is Hoba Hoba Spirit\, a Moroccan rock band from Casablanca that fuses rock\, reggae and Gnawa (a Sufi style brought from West Africa) into a sound they call “haiha”—evoking the controlled chaos and randomness of their live experience. They joined by Hamid El Kasri\, a Gnawa master trained in the Chemeli style with a distinctively deep and rich voice who performs with the three-stringed bass guembri; Dakhla Casa Xpress beginning with the stillness and warmth of the desert\, and building toward the electric energy of the city; Mr ID\, the DJ and producer who brought American rap beats\, funk rhythms and the spirit of Jazz back home with him to Morocco\, where he fused the sounds with violin airs and African percussion; and NDRK\, a rising star on the dance floors of Marrakech\, Casablanca\, and Dubai\, who also produces gems like the track selected as the anthem for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

SUMMARY:Mavis Staples / Brother Wallace / LaGuardia High School Gospel Ensemble / Luv
DESCRIPTION:Due to the progressively worsening Air Quality Index in Central Park\, tonight’s show has been cancelled to protect the safety of our staff\, artists\, and guests. Stay safe and we hope to se you at another show. \nMavis Staples has been performing for eight decades. At 86 years old\, she’s known as one of the most enduring figures in American music\, earning inductions into multiple halls of fame (blues\, rock\, and gospel)\, was a Kennedy Center Honoree\, and winner of numerous GRAMMY awards\, including one for lifetime achievement. With her return to SummerStage\, she’s sure to perform the hits alongside new tracks from her 15th solo album Sad and Beautiful World. She’s collaborated with nearly every major figure of her many eras\, from Bob Dylan to Prince\, Aretha Franklin\, and Willie Nelson. Opening the evening is Brother Wallace\, a force of modern soul and gospel sound. Most recently\, he’s collaborated with The Heavy guitarist Dan Taylor to build a body of work built on his electrifying brand of soul music. The LaGuardia Gospel Ensemble explores the rich history and enduring legacy of gospel music\, tracing its evolution from the early 20th century to today while honoring its roots in the Black Church and the struggle for social change. Through powerful performances\, the ensemble celebrates one of America’s most influential musical traditions while fostering artistry\, community\, and the next generation of performers.

SUMMARY:De La Soul / Pete Rock
DESCRIPTION:At the dawn of the ‘90s\, when the most popular hip-hop was neck-deep in intimidating street tales\, New Yorkers De La Soul offered an alternate take\, striving for peace and harmony with creative rhyme styles on their critically acclaimed debut 3 Feet High and Rising. Prince Paul’s heavily sample-based production style and inventive skits remain massively influential\, even as hip-hop aesthetics have shifted from the jazz\, soul\, and classic R&B sounds he drew from. The group continued to evolve\, leaving behind the flowery aesthetic that mistakenly branded them as “hippies” for a darker tone on records like De La Soul is Dead and Buhloone Mindstate. Though this current lineup is without Trugoy the Dove—who passed in 2023—the group has experienced a resurgence of interest with new 2025 release Cabin in the Sky. They’re joined by Bronx legend Pete Rock\, producer and occasional MC best known for his collaborations with CL Smooth (“They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”) and his production work on classic albums by Nas\, AZ\, Rakim\, and his cousin Heavy D. Widely considered one of the most renowned hip-hop producers of the ‘90s\, his hazy\, jazz-centric sample style is both distinctive and widely influential. His recent studio collaboration with Common\, The Auditorium Vol. 1\, earned him a GRAMMY nomination last year.
