SUMMARY:It's My Park at Wolfe's Pond Park
DESCRIPTION:DIG+RIDE = FUN. Join NYCMTB on the First Saturday of each month to help\, build\, ride\, and maintain the trails at Wolfe’s Pond park in Staten Island. Volunteers help conduct our monthly trail inspection\, perform routine maintenance tasks\, such as litter pickup raking\, erosion control(digging) and signage maintenance. Volunteer hours start at 9:00am rain or shine. Optional group off-road mountain bike ride at 12:30pm on the trails (The Route: mostly beginner friendly; Distance: ~7 miles). Both groups meet at the Maintenance Shop in the Main Parking lot at Wolfe’s Pond Park: 475 Cornelia Ave Staten Island\, NY 10312. \nVolunteers should meet in the big parking lot outside of the NYC Parks Department building. Please wear durable shoes: boots or sneakers. We will be walking along uneven terrain and shoes may get dirty. \nFor more information\, please email avril@nycmtb.org.

DESCRIPTION:On March 14\, Friends of Mahoney Playground will host an It’s My Park (IMP) Day to kick off Phase 1 of the Green Fund “Roots & Blossoms” Native Plant Project. This event will focus on clean-up and ground preparation for a new native pollinator garden in Mahoney Playground in New Brighton. Volunteers will help remove litter and invasive growth\, clear and define garden bed areas\, layer cardboard for natural weed suppression\, and prepare soil with amendments to support healthy planting. This foundational work will prepare the site for upcoming native seed ball workshops and plug planting days that will engage youth\, families\, and seniors in hands-on environmental education. Roots & Blossoms is designed to increase pollinator habitat\, improve soil health\, and build climate resilience in an Environmental Justice community that is also considered a food desert despite neighboring major waterfront development. By restoring this underutilized space\, we aim to beautify the playground\, strengthen community stewardship\, and create an intergenerational teaching garden rooted in sustainability.
