SUMMARY:Spoon / Ratboys / Bodega
DESCRIPTION:Spoon\, Austin’s most esteemed rock ambassadors\, have released ten albums to date including a string of five straight top 10 records: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007)\, Transference (2010)\, They Want My Soul (2014)\, Hot Thoughts (2017)\, and Lucifer on the Sofa (2022). The latter earned the band its first-ever GRAMMY nomination (Best Rock Album) and was praised by Rolling Stone as “the best thing they’ve ever done.” Look for hits from the revered catalog and more when the band play SummerStage in Central Park. They’re joined by Ratboys\, a prolific rock band once dubbed “the nicest indie rock band in Chicago” by Pitchfork. They’re touring behind their sixth album Singin’ to an Empty Chair\, a record built around a dialogue between Steiner and a close—but estranged—loved one\, which swerves between bubbly power-pop and post-country Americana. Opening the show is Brooklyn’s own BODEGA\, the anti-consumerist rock band\, jagged post-punk energy and social critique\, whose new album will be coming out via Chrysalis Records later this Fall.

SUMMARY:Duck Down Music presents: Heltah Skeltah & O.G.C. of Boot Camp Clik\, Nocturnal & Da Storm 30 Year Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Duck Down Music and the Boot Camp Clik represent an era of New York City hip-hop that focused on the hardworking tenacity of the scene\, prioritizing bars over bling. In their late-’90s heyday\, the imprint released nine albums including classics from Smif-N-Wessun and Black Moon. The first music to emerge from their label deal with Priority Records would be from newcomers Heltah Skeltah (Rock and the late Sean Price) & O.G.C. (Starang Wondah\, Louieville Sluggah\, and Top Dog)—first as the supergroup the Fab Five in 1995\, and later the following year as separate groups. This show in Bedford-Stuyvesant celebrates the 30th anniversary of those 1996 debuts: Heltah Skeltah’s Nocturnal & O.G.C.’s Da Storm\, two albums that explore the city’s edges with sparse beats and cutting wordplay.

SUMMARY:Mereba / Mack Keane / Arima Ederra / Halfmoon BK
DESCRIPTION:In just 10 short years\, the German music performance platform COLORSxSTUDIOS has evolved from a simple idea—showcasing emerging artists through stripped-down live performances with a minimalist\, monochrome aesthetic—into one of the most influential live-music platforms on the internet. For this show in Bed-Stuy’s Herbert Von King park\, they invite to the heart of Brooklyn a trio of cutting edge artists on the cusp of breaking out. Mereba\, a talented singer and songwriter with a deep connection to the American South who effortlessly flits between hip-hop\, folk\, and progressive R&B\, has already recorded with both big indies (Secretly Canadian)\, major labels (Interscope)\, and Dreamville’s Spillage Village collective. Her debut 2019 LP The Jungle Is The Only Way Out was co-produced by Samuel Hoffman and 9th Wonder. She’s joined by Mack Keane\, the Los Angeles native emerging as a leader of the next wave of R&B. His self-produced 2025 project Entries demonstrated his command of songwriting and storytelling\, earning him a spot opening for Destin Conrad on the Love On Digital Tour. He has since partnered with Star Trak Entertainment – the label behind some of the most defining sounds in R&B – and is gearing up to release his debut album Wide Eyed on May 8. Opening the show is Arima Ederra\, who imbued melancholy with bursts of sunshine on her debut LP An Orange Colored Day; her latest album A Rush to Nowhere takes a morose ‘80s rock sentimentality to bolder and darker places. With DJ sets from Halfmoon BK\, the hip internet radio station turned music media platform and “new age cultural institution” with its finger on the pulse of Black dance music in New York City.

SUMMARY:MIKE's Young World: Max B / MIKE with The Band of the Century
DESCRIPTION:As rapper and curator MIKE’s career has grown from teenage phenom into budding label owner\, so has the size of his tent. His annual Young World festival emerged from the intimate Abrons Art Center in lower Manhattan into the sprawling block party it’s become today\, taking over a sizable portion of Bed-Stuy’s largest park. This year MIKE curates a line up headlined by Max B\, the legendary Harlem MC who rose to prominence in the mid 2000s. Despite a 16 year incarceration from 2016-2025\, he maintained a strong influence on hip-hop’s sound and a cult-like fanbase that’s global\, but most pronounced in his hometown of NYC. For the first time in front of a wide audience\, MIKE will be backed by “the Band of the Century” – the band he developed for his NPR Tiny Desk concert. Additional performers will be announced soon.

SUMMARY:Bilal / GENA / DJ Tara
DESCRIPTION:Presented with the legendary Apollo Theater\, this evening brings together boundary-pushing voices in R&B and soul. A foundational member of the loose late-’90s hip-hop/R&B collective the Soulquarians\, Bilal has an effortless\, understated swag. It oozes from every track of his 2001 debut 1st Born Second\, a retro yet fresh take on soul music at the turn of the century. He’s gotten more experimental as he’s grown\, collaborating with artists such as Kimbra\, Otis Brown III\, Kat Dahlia\, Slum Village\, and Kendrick Lamar on his third album To Pimp a Butterfly. Bilal’s latest release is Live at Glasshaus\, a live recording from an intimate\, career-spanning performance with Questlove\, Robert Glasper\, and Burniss Travis as his backing band. He’s joined by GENA\, a new project from the dynamic R&B artist Liv.e and renowned producer/drummer Karriem Riggins; their name stands for God Energy\, Naturally Amazing\, indicative of their improvisationally ordained approach to making music. On the ones and twos is DJ Tara\, host of misc. on The Lot Radio\, and co-founder of Donuts are Forever\, the longest running J Dilla tribute and fundraiser in the world.

SUMMARY:Bastille Day: Black M / Laurent Voulzy / Legends of the 80’s / Michel Polnareff
DESCRIPTION:For Bastille Day\, the Consulate General of France in New York imports four distinct acts from across the French pop landscape. Headlining is Black M\, French-Guinean rapper and member of the world-renowned group Sexion d’Assaut. Known for his animated personality and tongue-twisting rhyming style\, he broke out as a solo artist with the 2014 album Les yeux plus gros que le monde\, and has collaborated with artists such as Shakira (“Comme Moi”)\, Manu Dibango\, and Amadou & Mariam. He’s joined by Laurent Voulzy\, one of the most successful and critically acclaimed composers in contemporary French pop who has only become more prolific with age. Often working in tandem with longtime collaborator Alain Souchon\, Voulzy is known for an obsessive attention to detail in the studio\, crafting sophisticated melodies and rich arrangements. Also featured\, Legends of the 80’s\, a group of some of the most legendary French artists of the ‘80s. They’ve been touring as a unit for more than two decades\, sharing nostalgia and a love of one of France’s most popular eras in music. Finally\, Michel Polnareff\, the enigmatic French singer and composer best known for his 1966 hits “La Poupée qui fait non” and “Love Me\, Please Love Me\,” who has found success writing pop hits\, film scores\, and music for the stage.

SUMMARY:De La Soul / Pete Rock
DESCRIPTION:At the dawn of the ‘90s\, when the most popular hip-hop was neck-deep in intimidating street tales\, New Yorkers De La Soul offered an alternate take\, striving for peace and harmony with creative rhyme styles on their critically acclaimed debut 3 Feet High and Rising. Prince Paul’s heavily sample-based production style and inventive skits remain massively influential\, even as hip-hop aesthetics have shifted from the jazz\, soul\, and classic R&B sounds he drew from. The group continued to evolve\, leaving behind the flowery aesthetic that mistakenly branded them as “hippies” for a darker tone on records like De La Soul is Dead and Buhloone Mindstate. Though this current lineup is without Trugoy the Dove—who passed in 2023—the group has experienced a resurgence of interest with new 2025 release Cabin in the Sky. They’re joined by Bronx legend Pete Rock\, producer and occasional MC best known for his collaborations with CL Smooth (“They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”) and his production work on classic albums by Nas\, AZ\, Rakim\, and his cousin Heavy D. Widely considered one of the most renowned hip-hop producers of the ‘90s\, his hazy\, jazz-centric sample style is both distinctive and widely influential. His recent studio collaboration with Common\, The Auditorium Vol. 1\, earned him a GRAMMY nomination last year.

SUMMARY:Julieta Venegas / Lasso / DJ Anamaria Sayre
DESCRIPTION:A sampling of Spanish-language pop hits Central Park\, in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference. GRAMMY-winning Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas has been a mainstay of Mexican pop since her breakout 2003 LP Sí\, a lovestruck collection of sun-drenched hits that’s been described as “relentlessly perky.” She’s best known for the catchy pop found on that record and its follow-up Limon y Sal\, but the one-time member of ska band Tijuana No! debuted with the significantly edgier rock en español records Aqui and Bueninvento\, and has written songs for and performed with a wide range of Latin artists\, from Paulina Rubio and Mala Rodríguez to Miguel Bosé and Los Tigres del Norte. She’s joined by the Venezuelan singer and composer Lasso\, known for his brand of Latin pop\, rock\, and romantic ballads; his 2011 debut album Sin Otro Sentido made him an overnight star in Venezuela (and landed him a starring role in a TV soap opera). He would later win the Best Pop Rock Latin GRAMMY for “Ojos Marrones” in 2023.

SUMMARY:UBB 40th Anniversary Celebration: BreakBeat Lou & Lord Finesse / Diamond D / Grand Puba / Sadat X / Nice & Smooth / Peter Gunz / DJ Boogie Blind
DESCRIPTION:Few records—if any—have had as much impact on music as the Ultimate Breaks and Beats compilation assembled by BreakBeat Lou and BreakBeat Lenny in 1986. By collecting what they called the “foundational” breakbeats – the very records DJs looped for breakdancers at the earliest hip-hop park jams and block parties\, they created not only an essential tool for DJs\, but also an accidental archive of hip-hop’s DNA. For this 40th anniversary celebration of the original compilation—of which only 25 volumes were released between 1986 and 1991— Breakbeat Lou is joined by members of the Bronx’s legendary Diggin’ in the Crates crew\, Lord Finesse and Diamond D. As pioneers of a distinct New York sound\, their work helped define the golden era of hip-hop production and lyricism that would soon resonate nationwide. Rounding out a line up filled with SummerStage alumni are Grand Puba and Sadat X of the acclaimed socially conscious rap group Brand Nubian; the iconic duo Nice & Smooth\, best known for their single “Hip-Hop Junkies\,” their feature on Big Daddy Kane’s “Pimpin Ain’t Easy\,” and their unforgettable appearance on Gang Starr’s “DWYCK”; and Peter Gunz\, whose collaboration with Lord Tariq\, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” became a late-90s anthem—sampling the unmistakable groove of Steely Dan. Completing the celebration is a set by DJ Boogie Blind\, known for his affiliations with the legendary X‑ecutioners as well as the Diggin’ in the Crates collective. Together\, these artists represent the culture\, creativity\, and crate-digging spirit that helped transform a DJ tool into one of hip-hop’s most influential musical documents.

SUMMARY:Doug E. Fresh & Funk Flex Second Annual Hip-Hop Appreciation Park Jam
DESCRIPTION:“Human beatbox” Doug E. Fresh is one of the pivotal figures of hip-hop\, who can accurately imitate drum machines and effects with just his mouth and a microphone. His early collaborations with Slick Rick — ”The Show” and “La Di Da Di” — are among the genre’s foundational hits. Funk Flex is more than just a DJ. He’s a hip-hop institution\, a radio and club mainstay who has helped some of New York’s biggest artists and hits break out and continues to keep his finger on the pulse of hip-hop and R&B. These SummerStage alums are back with an old-school park jam reminiscent of hip-hop’s humble and joyous beginnings\, celebrating the art form in which they’ve invested their lives\, in the borough in which it was born.

SUMMARY:Trueno / Milo J / J Noa
DESCRIPTION:A trio of rising Latin hip-hop stars head to Central Park for this show\, presented in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Of the various figures in the red hot Argentinian rap scene\, none has shined brighter than Trueno\, the son of Uruguayan rapper Peligro and a veteran of the scene’s battle rap circuit. His early appearance on producer Bizarrap’s freestyle show BZRP Freestyle Sessions launched him to nationwide fame and helped establish the show as a chart-topping vehicle\, landing the pair at the number one spot on Argentina’s Hot 100. He’s since released several solo albums\, collaborated with the likes of Bad Gyal\, Feid\, and J Balvin\, and is responsible for one of the Argentinian rap scene’s biggest hits in 2020’s “Mamichula.” He’s joined by Milo J\, who leveraged his viral hit “Milagrosa” into collaborations with Nicki Nicole\, Duki\, and Peso Pluma; he also benefited from an appearance on Bizarrap’s YouTube series\, which led to the pair’s collaborative EP En Dormir Sin Madrid. His latest LP La Vida Era Más Corta saw him take a hard left turn into art-pop\, fusing Argentine folklore with urban and experimental sounds. Opening the show is the dynamic Dominican rapper J Noa\, a nimble-tongued MC with a rapid-fire flow who stunned the world at her NPR Tiny Desk performance\, her first outside of her own neighborhood in the Dominican Republic.

SUMMARY:WayV / The Either / Chopstix
DESCRIPTION:For a century\, China Institute of America has been dedicated to deepening the world’s understanding of China. In celebration of their Centennial\, SummerStage brings two takes on the future sounds of Chinese pop to Central Park. The K-pop boy band NCT is so massive that it’s become its own ecosystem\, spinning off members into their own sub-groups that establish their own voice. WayV are the fourth such to spin off—and its first China-based collective—recording pop songs that fuse hip-hop and dance with R&B-stylized vocals sung in Mandarin since their 2019 debut EP The Vision. They’re joined by The Either\, an electronic trio that believes “in an androgynous world where cultures converge\,” wielding electrified versions of the traditional Chinese instruments the pipa and the erhu and citing futurism\, globalism\, and technology as their main influences.

His most defining work is arguably 2005’s The Mysterious Production of Eggs\, which demonstrated an avant-pop sophistication with a mastery of elaborate loops\, multi-tracked violin\, and his remarkable prowess as a whistler. Bird has headlined shows at iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall\, the Sydney Opera House\, Walt Disney Concert Hall\, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre\, but he’ll celebrate the 20th anniversary of that record at SummerStage in Central Park with the Wordless Music Orchestra\, performing the record for the first time in its entirety alongside a full orchestra\, followed by a suite of fan-favorites from his nearly 30-year repertoire.
