Norwegian Anna of the North\, behind such hits as “Lovers” and “Dream Girl” has collaborated with artists like Tyler\, The Creator\, Frank Ocean\, Lil Wayne\, and Kali Uchis. Her signature blend of vulnerable lyrics\, dreamy synths\, and Scandinavian cool has carved out a unique space in the global pop landscape alongside her rich\, captivating live performances. Sweden’s Sarah Klang makes guitar-based pop music with influences of Americana and country; her songs are rooted in tender stories about motherhood\, maturation\, and coming of age. DESCRIPTION:An American funk jam band formed in the early ‘90s by teenagers at the Berklee College of Music in Boston\, Lettuce draws its name from its members’ pleas to local clubs for gigs (“Let us play”). They drew early inspiration from Herbie Hancock; Earth\, Wind and Fire; and Tower of Power\, coalescing around a love of classic funk. They would later cut a record (Rage!) featuring classic funk tracks from the ‘70s\, such as Curtis Mayfield’s “Move on Up” and Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band’s “Express Yourself.” These days their sound is a creatively stirred melting pot of hip-hop\, jazz\, New Orleans R&B\, blues\, and rock. As the band has evolved and recorded nearly a dozen live and studio albums\, its members have also made names for themselves in other projects; Ryan Zoidis (saxophone) founded the Rustic Overtones\, Erick Coomes (bass) established himself as a go-to session player and touring bassist for Britney Spears and the Game\, Adam Deitch (drums) plays with Break Science and has worked with John Scofield and Wyclef Jean\, and Adam Smirnoff has toured with Lady Gaga and Robert Randolph & the Family Band. Statik Selektah\, renowned DJ\, producer\, musician\, and radio personality\, will be spinning between sets.

To honor this milestone\, our traveling marionette theater\, the PuppetMobile\, will present Pippi\, a fresh retelling of the classic Swedish tale. \nThe production features nearly two dozen\, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers. In addition to the brilliant artistry of the production\, kids and families will enjoy the incredible adventures of quick-witted and super-strong Pippi as she overcomes bullies\, all while fending off unnecessary social conventions. \nCelebrate iconic Swedish children’s book character Pippi Longstocking with beloved NYC klezmer band The Klezmatics’ accordion-driven sound. Pippi also comes to life through puppet performances by the Parks PuppetMobile and a musical read along by writer Jacqueline Woodson and Brownstone Brass presented by The Center for Fiction and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music\, with support from the Swedish Consulate. Tiny Desk alumni Gordi weaves electronic elements into warm\, intimate folk songs with NYLON suggesting she might be the “Female Bon Iver”. Grace Cummings soulful ballads quickly rose out of Melbourne’s indie scene on the strength of her powerful\, distinctive voice\, described by Pitchfork as “a truly dazzling instrument”. PINES combine arresting melodies\, pulse-pounding beats\, and elevated\, atmospheric elements into a distinct\, immersive sonic experience. SUMMARY:Gil Scott-Heron Celebration: Freedom Riders / Sista Zock / The Last Poets
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of the life and legacy of the artist\, activist\, and performer Gil Scott-Heron. Known best for his poetic and prolific words “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”\, Scott-Heron’s spoken word performances inspired generations of rappers\, poets\, and singers. His style and rhythms forever changed hip-hop\, earning him the title of Godfather to the genre. Among the performers at this special event is Sista Zock\, a spoken word poet and musician with a unique Afro-jazz-hip-hop fusion sound. Her latest album Zock Solid: Where the Stem Meets the Root features a collaboration with The Last Poets and transcends genre boundaries. Additional artists are to be announced. \n  \nCo-Presented by the Jazz Foundation of America\, supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council\, and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
