DESCRIPTION:Live jazz by local artists in the neighborhood green spaces where Charlie Parker lived.  \nThe famed Cuban Trova singer Xiomara Laugart was a founding member of the renowned Latin fusion band Yerba Buena\, and played the lead role in the 2007 Off-Broadway musical Celia: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz. In recent years she has often been accompanied by her talented son Axel Tosca–“A Cuban jazz pianist who is one of New York City’s best young timba musicians” (New York Latin Culture Magazine). His trio Reverse Audio blends progressive Jazz\, Cuban Timba\, and R&B\, with a dash of Hip-Hop\, and features Jon Smith on bass and Estratos on drums. \nSupported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Live jazz by local artists in the neighborhood green spaces where Charlie Parker lived.  \nSoulful alto saxophonist and flautist David Lee Jones was born and raised in Houston\, TX\, a city that is deeply rooted in Blues\, R&B and Soul music. He attended Texas Southern University\, then Berklee College of Music\, where he obtained a B. A. in Jazz Composition and Arranging. In 1984 David moved to New York City and began working with jazz organist Jack McDuff. In 1992 he began working with Phyllis Hyman\, playing auxiliary keyboards and saxophones\, until her death in 1995. After joining the Grammy award winning jazz / rap group Digable Planets\, he played on\, wrote and arranged all the horn arrangements for their sophomore record “Blowout Comb.” He toured with Sade on her last U.S. tour entitled “Love Deluxe.” In recent years\, David has worked with the Mingus Big Band and the Sun Ra Arkestra\, and he leads his own Organ Groove Trio in Harlem at the American Legion Post 398 every Sunday. \nSupported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.

Activation also includes a self-portrait workshop (no art experience needed) guided by artist Élan Cadiz. Presented by Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association (MMPCIA) in partnership with Heath Gallery\, NYC Parks and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. This project is made possible in part with funds from Creative Engagement & UMEZ Arts Engagement\, a regrant program supported by DCLA and NYSCA and administered by LMCC. Private support is provided by City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks through the NYC Green Fund. The event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Pinocchio and Gepetto's Big Apple Adventure
DESCRIPTION:During the 2026 season\, the PuppetMobile will present a fresh take on the classic fairytale Pinocchio written by Julia Darden and directed by Bruce Cannon\, with set design by Zlata Godunova and costume design by Charlie DelRisco. \nIn this new telling\, Geppetto is a New York City kid with a talent for invention\, going as far as creating a robot friend in the form of Pinocchio. The story follows the pair as they tour around classic locales\, from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park to the Victorian Gardens Amusement Park\, and the hijinks they get into along the way.  \nThe production features hand-made marionettes crafted by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre puppet builder Kevin White. In addition to the artistry of the production\, viewers will be treated to original songs written and orchestrated by Daryl Kojak performed by the marionettes.

DESCRIPTION:Performers for this celebration of the label’s 70th anniversary include Samara Joy\, a six-time GRAMMY winner and Bronx native\, and Christian McBride\, a world-class bassist and bandleader\, a Juilliard graduate and 11-time GRAMMY winner who has recorded with legends of both the jazz (McCoy Tyner\, Herbie Hancock\, Chick Corea\, Wynton Marsalis\, Eddie Palmieri\, and more) and pop (Sting\, Paul McCartney\, Celine Dion) spheres. Also\, Mei Semones\, an American indie rock musician who writes jazz-influenced songs in both English and Japanese\, has invited her own crew of friends including aron!\, Liana Flores\, and John Roseboro to perform music from Getz/Gilberto\, the classic collaborative album by João Gilberto and Stan Getz released on Verve in 1964. Sparklmami will begin the show with a DJ set.

The story follows the pair as they tour around classic locales\, from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park to the Victorian Gardens Amusement Park\, and the hijinks they get into along the way.  \nThe production features hand-made marionettes crafted by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre puppet builder Kevin White. In addition to the artistry of the production\, viewers will be treated to original songs written and orchestrated by Daryl Kojak performed by the marionettes.

Musical director Zalmen Mlotek leads a fresh wave of artists shaping the sound of today. Mlotek is a conductor\, pianist\, musical arranger\, accompanist\, composer\, and the Artistic Director of the NYTF\, the longest continuously running Yiddish theatre in the world. \nThe performance features an exciting roster of rising stars\, including Yair Keydar\, the 13-year-old Star Search veteran; Yosef Kogan\, the 13-year-old violin prodigy who has performed at Carnegie Hall\, Merkin Hall\, and the Prague String Festival; The Mamales\, a dynamic trio of young women singers who met while performing Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish; Riki Rose\, a Yiddish singer\, songwriter\, comedian from Williamsburg’s Satmar community; Margot Weintraub\, the young actress and singer best known for roles in the Amazon series Hunters and Sarah Silverman’s Off-Broadway show The Bedwetter; and special guests The Shvesters\, a dazzling and distinctive duo that transform classic Yiddish melodies into new jazz arrangements.
